DIGGELS – How does that glass end up in the DCA's terrace tables?

Diggels Terrace Tables

The terrace tables at Duurzaamheidscentrum Assen are made from recycled glass, transforming a familiar waste stream into a durable new material.

The glass is collected, processed and melted before being formed into solid tabletops. Rather than disguising its origin, the material retains the visual qualities of glass: its depth, irregularities and subtle variations make every surface unique.

For the DCA terrace, the material became the starting point for a series of outdoor tables. Their simple construction gives the recycled glass centre stage and demonstrates how a material that has reached the end of one life can become the beginning of another.

The film below follows the complete production process inside the factory—from glass to finished table. It offers a rare look behind the scenes at the machinery, craftsmanship and different production stages involved in transforming discarded glass into a new object.
